India is the world's largest barite producer, with an annual output of over 2.6 million tons, of which Andhra Pradesh contributes the vast majority of the country's production. However, India's barite industry has long been in a state of "large but not strong": a large amount of high-grade raw ore is exported at low prices to China, the Middle East and other regions, while domestic high-quality drilling-grade powder instead needs to be imported. Local processing enterprises mostly use outdated ball mills and small MTW6X European mills, with high energy consumption, wide finished product particle size distribution, and unstable specific gravity, making it difficult to pass the strict acceptance standards of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and international oil companies.
With the intensification of domestic oil and gas exploration in India, especially the sharp increase in demand for high-quality barite powder for offshore drilling projects, the local mining group decided to invest in building a modern barite deep processing production line. After multiple investigations and comparisons, it finally selected specialized grinding equipment optimized for high-grade barite, building a 100,000 TPY standardized drilling-grade powder production line, aiming to replace imports, meet domestic oil and gas demand, and export high-quality powder to Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Based on the characteristics of high-grade barite ore in Andhra Pradesh (BaSO4 content above 95%) and relatively high hardness, an efficient and energy-saving grinding production line is configured. The core equipment is as follows:

  • C6X Series Jaw Crusher: Deep cavity C6X jaw crusher, optimized cavity design for high-hardness barite ore, crushing 0-40mm raw ore to 10-15mm, with large crushing ratio, uniform product particle size, and single-machine processing capacity meeting the 100,000 TPY annual output demand.
  • Vibrating Feeder: Variable frequency vibrating feeder, uniformly and continuously feeding the crusher, automatically adjusting feed rate according to main engine load, avoiding blockage and idling, improving overall operating efficiency.
  • Large MTW6X European Mill Main Unit: Adopting MTW6X European mill, grinding rollers and rings made of high-manganese steel composite material, optimized grinding pressure and rotation speed for high-grade barite grinding characteristics, single-machine capacity up to 15 tons/hour, stable finished product specific gravity.
  • High-Efficiency Vortex Classifier: Equipped with variable frequency high-precision classifier, high classification efficiency, accurate cutting particle size, ensuring 200-325 mesh finished product pass rate ≥98%, coarse powder automatically returns for re-grinding, zero material waste.
  • Pulse Bag Dust Collector: Large offline pulse dust collector, large filtration area, good ash cleaning effect, dust emission concentration below 30mg/m³, meeting Indian environmental emission standards, dust-free workshop.
  • Screw Conveyor and Bucket Elevator: Fully enclosed conveying equipment, no material spillage, no dust overflow, adapted to high-temperature and dusty factory environments in India, stable and reliable operation.
  • PLC Intelligent Control System: Siemens PLC control system, real-time monitoring of equipment operating status, with overload protection, automatic fault alarm, linkage start-stop functions, simple operation interface, local workers can operate independently after training.

The project adopts a fully dry closed-circuit grinding process, with simple flow, low energy consumption, and stable finished product quality. The specific process flow is as follows:

  • 1.Raw Material Crushing: High-grade barite ore mined in the Andhra Pradesh mining area is dumped into the raw material bin by dump truck, uniformly fed into the C6X jaw crusher by the vibrating feeder, and crushed to 10-15mm uniform particle size.
  • 2.Lifting and Conveying: Crushed qualified materials are lifted to the pre-grinding storage bin by bucket elevator, then quantitatively fed into the MTW6X European mill grinding chamber by screw conveyor.
  • 3.Grinding and Pulverizing: The material is pulverized into fine powder under high-pressure rolling and shearing between the grinding roller and grinding ring. The grinding pressure can be automatically adjusted according to material hardness, ensuring sufficient grinding of high-grade barite.
  • Classification and Screening: The ground powder enters the vortex classifier with the airflow. Qualified 200-325 mesh fine powder passes through the classifier wheel and enters the powder collector, while unqualified coarse powder falls back to the grinding chamber under centrifugal force for secondary grinding.
  • 4.Powder Collection and Dust Removal: Qualified powder is collected by the cyclone powder collector through pipelines, and dusty gas enters the pulse bag dust collector for purification. Clean air is discharged up to standard, and recovered dust is returned to the production system.
  • 5.Finished Product Packaging: Collected barite powder is sent to the finished product bin by screw conveyor, paired with a fully automatic ton bag packaging machine, packaged as 1 ton/bag or 25kg/bag according to customer requirements, and directly delivered to domestic oilfields or exported through ports.

Project Highlights

  • Largest Single Production Capacity in India: With an annual output of 100,000 tons of drilling-grade barite powder, it is the largest single barite deep processing production line in southern India, with production capacity leading local peers, and can stably undertake bulk orders for large oil and gas projects.
  • Special Optimization for High-Grade Ore Sources: Specifically optimized grinding pressure, classification parameters and wear-resistant materials for high-grade barite with BaSO4 content above 95% in Andhra Pradesh, with finished product specific gravity stable above 4.2, passing strict ONGC acceptance.
  • Energy Consumption Significantly Lower Than Traditional Processes: Compared with the ball mill process commonly used in India, unit product power consumption is reduced by more than 40%, steel consumption reduced by 60%, greatly reducing production costs and improving product market competitiveness.
  • Fully Automatic Intelligent Operation: The entire production line is PLC linked and controlled, fully automated from crushing to packaging, requiring only 2-3 people to complete the entire line operation, adapting to the rising labor cost trend in India.
  • Environmental Compliance and Green Production: Fully enclosed production + efficient dust collection system, dust emission far below Indian national standards, successfully passed local environmental approval, enabling long-term stable and compliant production.
  • Complete Export Quality Certification: Finished products meet API 13A standards, can be directly exported to Southeast Asia and Middle East markets, helping customers upgrade from raw ore exporters to high-value-added powder exporters.
"We have been operating barite mines in Andhra Pradesh for many years. Previously, we mainly sold raw ore to buyers in China and the Middle East, with very thin profits. Seeing the growing demand for high-quality powder in domestic oil and gas drilling, we decided to build our own deep processing line. After investigating many manufacturers, we finally chose this dedicated MTW6X European mill production line. After commissioning, the equipment operated very stably, capacity met standards, and finished product specific gravity and fineness both passed ONGC acceptance. Now our powder not only supplies domestic oilfields but also exports to Vietnam and the UAE, with profits several times higher than selling raw ore. The manufacturer's installation, commissioning and technical support are also very professional, and later maintenance is simple. We are very satisfied."
Q1

What is the difference between high-grade barite and ordinary barite in grinding process?

Barite in Andhra Pradesh, India generally has BaSO4 content above 95%, with relatively high hardness and strong abrasiveness, requiring higher grinding pressure and more wear-resistant grinding roller and ring materials. This project specifically optimized grinding parameters and wear parts for high-grade ore sources, ensuring finished product specific gravity stable above 4.2, while extending the service life of wear parts.

Q2

Can this production line pass the powder acceptance of India's Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)?

Yes. The 200-325 mesh barite powder produced by this project has specific gravity ≥4.2, fineness pass rate ≥98%, moisture content ≤0.5%, all indicators meeting ONGC and API 13A standards, and has passed batch acceptance and stable supply from local oilfield customers in India.

Q3

Does the high-temperature environment in India affect equipment operation?

Very little impact. The equipment is specifically optimized for tropical high-temperature environments: the electrical control cabinet is equipped with industrial air conditioning for heat dissipation, the lubrication system uses high-temperature resistant lubricating oil, and the main unit is equipped with a forced air cooling system, enabling stable continuous operation at ambient temperatures below 45°C,无惧 Indian summer high temperatures.

Q4

What is the approximate return on investment period when shifting from raw ore export to powder deep processing?

Based on the price difference between barite raw ore and powder in the Indian market, for a production line with an annual output of 100,000 tons, under normal operating rate and market price, the return on investment period is approximately 1.5-2 years. Powder has much higher added value than raw ore, and can directly connect with oilfield end customers, significantly improving profit margins.

Q5

Can equipment wear parts be purchased locally in India?

Common wear parts (grinding rollers, grinding rings, bearings, seals, etc.) can be provided in bulk by the manufacturer, and support establishing a spare parts warehouse locally in India. Grinding rollers and rings adopt standard size design, and can also be processed according to drawings at local foundries in India, making later maintenance and procurement convenient and low-cost.

Q6

Can the production line produce products of different fineness simultaneously?

Yes. The classifier adopts variable frequency speed regulation, fineness can be steplessly adjusted within 80-400 mesh, switching fineness only requires adjusting the inverter parameters without replacing hardware. Different specifications such as drilling grade (200-325 mesh) and coating grade (400-600 mesh) can be flexibly produced according to order requirements.

Q7

India has strict environmental requirements. Can this line meet standards?

Yes, it can meet standards. The entire production line adopts fully enclosed design, equipped with a large pulse bag dust collector, dust emission concentration below 30mg/m³, noise below 85 decibels, no wastewater discharge, fully meeting the environmental standards of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) of India, and has successfully passed local environmental approval.
