Activated carbon is a porous adsorbent material prepared from carbon containing raw materials through high temperature carbonization and activation. Coal based activated carbon production consists of four major procedures: raw material pretreatment, carbonization, activation and post treatment. After pretreatment including crushing, grinding, drying and screening, raw coal undergoes high temperature carbonization under oxygen deficient conditions to remove volatile components. The carbon material is then subjected to high temperature gas phase activation for pore formation, followed by washing and refining to obtain finished coal based activated carbon.

The preparation processes for wood based activated carbon vary significantly. Raw materials first go through impurity and sand removal followed by carbonization. The carbonized semi finished products enter the grinding process to adjust particle fineness, and then undergo staged activation with steam and activating agents. Secondary activation is added for some products to optimize pore structures. Multiple refining procedures are carried out afterwards, including crushing, grinding, pickling, drying and multi stage screening. The final wood based activated carbon products are obtained after classified packaging.

The grinding process determines the particle size indicators of activated carbon powder, and directly affects the pore utilization rate and adsorption efficiency of finished products. It is a critical procedure for product quality improvement and production cost reduction. Liming Heavy Industry LM Vertical Roller Mill integrates crushing, drying, grinding, powder selection and conveying into one unit. It delivers adjustable and controllable fineness.
