In recent years, newly built circulating fluidized bed (CFB) power plants generally adopt a combined desulfurization solution of in-furnace desulfurization and external flue gas desulfurization. This solution gives full play to the convenience and low-cost advantages of in-furnace desulfurization, while further purifying flue gas through external flue gas desulfurization.

In-furnace Desulfurization: Fuel and limestone are fed into the furnace together. Under fluidized combustion at 850-900°C, limestone is thermally decomposed into calcium oxide, which reacts with sulfur dioxide in flue gas to form calcium sulfite, and is finally discharged along with ash and slag.

External Desulfurization: After entering the rear flue duct, flue gas undergoes secondary desulfurization via semi-dry or wet processes. The semi-dry process injects lime slurry to react with sulfur dioxide and generate sulfate. The wet process absorbs sulfur dioxide through slurry washing, producing recyclable gypsum as a by-product.
